The star wars image, as I'm sure it did with many others, resonated deeply with me. I don't see, however, a storm trooper waving down a cab; that doesn't seem LA enough to me. The stormtrooper is a placeholder, an object we as viewers can readily substitute with a number of images - for me, I see sullen posture behind plastic shoulder plates, a subtle sadness. Try placing other individuals - a prostitute, an inner city kid, a timid young girl, a police man - in the trooper's place. I was amazed at how interchangeable the storm trooper is, and how doing so re-creates the scene with fresh perspective. The storm trooper is representative of plasticity, and its oft re-cycled existence...not unlike Angelenos and their quest for place
